2. Kurz gefasst

Übermittlung in Drittländer

2. In brief

  • You can play without giving a name or e-mail address (guest account).
  • Glimmerfall is a location-based game — the map does not work without your location.
  • We use no analytics, advertising or user-tracking tools.
  • The database is located in Frankfurt am Main (EU region), the realtime server in the Netherlands.
  • You can delete your account at any time. How to request the deletion is described on the page Delete account.

3. What data we process

3.1 Account

On first launch we create a guest account. A random identifier is generated for this; we do not ask for personal details. If you want to use your progress on several devices, you may voluntarily link the account to an e-mail address. Sign-in then uses a one-time code that we send to that address. We also store a freely chosen display name and optionally a reference to a character avatar.

3.2 Game progress

Progress, experience points, renown, glimmer dust, collected creatures, companions, blade, cosmetics, guild and the ledger entries recording rewards received. This data is assigned to your account.

This includes the daily distance: the distance you cover on foot on a given day while the game is open. The game calculates it on your device from your location data (section 3.3), credits at most 20 km per day and transmits only the daily total with your game progress — never the route itself. It is used solely for game progress — no advertising, no sharing, no analysis for other purposes — restarts every day and is deleted with your account.

3.3 Location data

The game needs your location to show the map, find nearby places and trigger encounters. The browser — or, in the app, the operating system — only releases your location after you allow it; you can revoke that permission at any time in your browser or system settings.

The following data is created on our servers:

WhatPrecisionHow long
Last map position (latitude/longitude, heading) so that others can see you on the map — only if you turn on the "Visible in encounters" switch (default: off) rounded to a grid of about 150 m (the centre of a grid cell); the exact position is not stored A single row per account, no movement history. Readable only by players who are visible themselves and within roughly 2 km, and only for 5 minutes. Overwritten with every new position, deleted immediately when you switch yourself to "invisible" or delete your account, and deleted automatically at the latest one day after the last position.
Proximity check for a blade greeting (a duel between two players, only if you allow duels) precise (for the check "no more than about 40 m apart") Sent to our duel server when the connection is set up and used there only for this check, not stored in the database. The other side is told neither your position nor a distance, only "close enough" or "still too far". Technical access logs of the hosting provider (Railway, see recipients) may briefly record the connection address.
Revealed map cells ("veil") hexagonal grid, roughly 130 m across per cell Until account deletion. The list records which cells you have revealed — not when, and not in which order. Taken together it nevertheless yields a fairly precise picture of the areas you have visited.
Harvesting at a place (place identifier + time of the last harvest, for the cooldown) precise to the place One row per account and place, overwritten on the next harvest; until account deletion.
Discovered sources (which sources your account has already discovered — only the place identifier, without a time; so that the reward for the first discovery of each source is given only once, even after reinstalling or on another device) precise to the place One row per account and source. It is created when you harvest; sources your device already knows (for example from earlier harvests or from harvests without a connection) are also transmitted by the app — at most 5,000 per account. Until account deletion.
Occupying a throne (when you station a creature as a defender at a throne): which throne, since when, which creature, your guild, its courage and its adornment — linked to your account identifier precise to the place (a throne is a fixed place on the map) Visible to others: other players see the creature, the guild and the courage at the throne, but no name. This information, including the account identifier, is publicly retrievable, even without signing in. Stored until you withdraw the creature ("Call echo home"), it loses all its courage in combat or you delete your account; a creature whose courage has run out over time remains stored until then.
Greeting stone (a sign you leave where you currently are, and who picks it up) — only if you turn on the "Allow greeting stones" switch (default: off) hexagonal grid, roughly 350 m across per cell; no exact point Other players who also allow greeting stones see only the sign in the cell — without a name and without any hint of who left it. No longer visible to anyone after 24 hours and then deleted automatically (deletion runs every hour), together with the record of who picked it up.

The coloured territory scoring on the map is aggregated per cell and guild only and contains no assignment to individual persons.

3.4 Motion sensors (sword combat)

For sword combat the game reads your device's orientation and motion sensors. These readings are evaluated on the device and are not transmitted to us. Only a short summary per fight is sent to the server (number of samples, active movement time, peak values for rotation and acceleration, timestamp scatter). We use it to check whether a sword movement actually took place.

Only if you share a measurement yourself in the settings under "Battle" → "Sword check" (in the browser: save it as a file and pass it on) does the recipient you choose receive this measurement file. It contains the motion and orientation readings of the measurement with timestamps, the detected strikes and the result of the check, sampling and frame rate, the platform, the device identifier of the browser or app (e.g. device type and system version), the game version and the time it was saved — no location, no account ID and no game progress. The game never sends the file on its own; you choose the recipient yourself.

3.5 Data for abuse detection

If values are implausible we store an indicator signal with derived features (e.g. "value exceeded the possible maximum by a factor of x") and a trust value for the account. Location coordinates and raw sensor data are expressly not included.

3.6 Purchase data

For a purchase we process: item purchased, price, time, payment status, a transaction reference from the payment provider and the details required for the receipt. Your payment details (card, account or wallet data) are processed exclusively by Stripe — for in-app purchases exclusively by Apple; we do not see them.

In-app purchases in the app from the App Store are handled by Apple (see section 5, "Purchases in the app from the App Store"). So that we can credit the purchased content to the right game account, the app passes the identifier of your game account to Apple with the purchase (called "appAccountToken" at Apple). For each purchase we receive from Apple: the transaction identifier (including that of the original transaction), the product purchased, the time of purchase, the storefront country, currency and price, whether it was a test purchase, the account identifier passed along, for a refund its time and reason, and the identifier and type of the notifications with which Apple informs us about purchases and refunds. We do not receive your name, your e-mail address or your Apple Account.

3.7 Server logs

Accessing the website, the database and the realtime server produces technical log data: IP address, time, requested address, status code, amount of data transferred, browser identification. This data is necessary for operation and security.

3.8 Storage on your device

We use no advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser's local storage holds your sign-in token, your settings and your game progress; the app cache holds map tiles, images, sounds and 3D models so the game runs quickly and also without a network connection. So that the map opens where you are the next time you start the game, it also remembers roughly where you last were (rounded to an area of about 130 m); this stays on your device only, is not transmitted to us and is deleted together with the other app data. This is strictly necessary to provide the service you expressly requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG) and therefore requires no consent. You can delete this data at any time via your browser settings; in the app by removing the app, and on Android also via the device's app settings (clear storage).

3.9 Walking distance from Apple Health or Health Connect

This section concerns the app version only (App Store), and only if you switch the feature on yourself in the game's settings (default: off). The game then reads only the walking distance (walking and running) from Apple Health (iOS), so that your walks also count while the app was closed. The operating system asks for your permission first.

The Android app from Google Play does not include this feature in its current version: it reads no data from Health Connect and does not ask for it. The connection to Health Connect will follow in a later app version; this section will be extended accordingly beforehand.

3.10 Reports and protection against objectionable content

Other players see your display name and your avatar picture. So that objectionable content disappears quickly, you can report other players in the game. For each report we store: the identifier of your account, the identifier of the reported account, the reason you chose, your optional text (at most 280 characters), the reported account's name at the time of the report, the time and the result of the review. The reported person does not find out who reported them. Only the operator sees reports; we do not pass them on to third parties.

If at least three players whose accounts are older than 24 hours report a name or a picture independently of each other, we provisionally hide the name and picture from others until a human being has reviewed the reports (Terms § 11 (3)). In addition, we do not show others any name containing words from a block list, and only show avatar pictures from our avatar service. If your name is affected, you see a notice in your profile and can object.

Your IP address is transmitted to this service when api.cloud.capawesome.io is contacted.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR has been concluded with each of the providers listed above. Such an agreement obliges the provider to give your data the same or equal protection as described in this policy.

Beyond this we disclose data where we are legally obliged to do so (e.g. to tax or law enforcement authorities).

Live updates of the app

This section concerns the app version only (App Store or Google Play) — none of it happens in the browser.

So that we can fix errors without you having to download a new version from the store every time, the app asks the service Capawesome Cloud on start-up whether a newer version of the game files exists. Transmitted in doing so are: a randomly generated device identifier, the app's version number, the identifier of the game files currently in use, the update channel, the operating system version, the platform (iOS or Android) and the version of the update component — plus, unavoidably, your IP address.

On Android the device identifier is a random number generated on the device and stored only inside this app; on iOS it is Apple's identifierForVendor. Neither is an advertising identifier, neither is used to recognise you across providers, and neither is linked to your game account. Both disappear when you delete the app. We transmit no freely chosen identifier to this service.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a functioning and error-free app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Purchases in the app from the App Store (Apple)

This section concerns the app from the App Store only. You conclude an in-app purchase via the App Store; Apple processes your payment and account data under its own responsibility in accordance with Apple's privacy policy. According to Apple's privacy policy, Apple Distribution International Limited (Ireland) is responsible for individuals in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Which details we pass to Apple and receive from Apple is set out in section 3.6. The legal basis is the performance of the contract for the purchased content (Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR); we keep the receipts as for all purchases (section 7).

"Image to avatar" in the rooom avatar editor

You design your 3D avatar in an editor provided by rooom AG and embedded in the game. Depending on rooom's settings it offers an "image to avatar" function. If you trigger it yourself and take a selfie or pick a photo for it, that image is sent directly from your device to rooom (image2avatar.rooom.io), which derives a suggestion for your avatar from it. According to the notice rooom shows in the editor before the upload, the image is processed with AI from the provider OpenAI in Europe. We never receive the image ourselves; only the finished avatar reaches us (section 3.1).

The function is optional — the avatar can be designed just as well without an image. Because it is part of rooom's editor, the game asks for your consent before the editor is opened for the first time — in the browser and in the app alike. Only then does the editor load; without consent the editor does not open and no image is sent to rooom. The legal basis is this consent (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR); for children under 16 it is only valid with the consent of a parent or guardian (section 10). The consent is recorded on your device. You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR) — in the editor via "Photo notice" and "Withdraw consent", or by writing to the address given in section 1; the lawfulness of the processing carried out until then remains unaffected.

Retention: rooom and OpenAI keep the image for at most 14 days; after that it is deleted.

Error reports from the rooom avatar editor

When it loads, rooom's editor starts the error service Sentry, which rooom uses for the editor (servers in the EU region, ingest.de.sentry.io). On loading it sends a technical session notice there, and if a program error occurs in the editor, an error report; your IP address is unavoidably transmitted in the process. This processing is carried out by rooom (section 5). The editor only loads after your consent (see above). The "Send error reports" switch in the game (section 6) only affects the game's own error reports, not those of the editor. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in an error-free avatar editor (Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR).

Transfers to third countries

The services named process our data within the European Union: the database in Frankfurt am Main, the realtime server in the Netherlands, the error reports in the EU region Frankfurt. Access from a third country by parent or group companies cannot be ruled out for some providers. Where a transfer to a third country takes place, we base it on an adequacy decision or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 44 et seq. GDPR):

6. No analytics, no advertising — but error reports

We use no reach-measurement tools, no advertising networks, no marketing profiles and we do not pass data to advertisers.

We do, however, use the service Sentry to notice and fix program errors in the game, in particular in the purchase flow. What is transmitted is the error message, the location in the program code and the program version; your IP address is transmitted at the network level when a report is sent, but its storage is switched off in our configuration.

Expressly not transmitted are: screen recordings (no "session replay"), your clicks and entries, the addresses you call up, your name and your e-mail address. An error report in which — despite these precautions — anything looks like a location or an e-mail address is discarded in full and never reaches the service. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in error-free and secure operation, in particular of the payment flow).

You can switch error reports off. The game's settings contain a toggle called "Send error reports". With it turned off, the service is not even loaded at start-up and no error report from the game leaves your device (for the rooom avatar editor see section 5). The setting is stored on your device only; it is not transmitted.

6a. Data security

We protect your data with technical and organisational measures under Art. 32 GDPR. These include in particular:

7. Retention periods

8. Your rights

You have the right at any time to

You may withdraw any consent given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR) — map visibility, for instance, directly via the switch in the game.

Please contact the address given in section 1.

9. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is:

Thüringer Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit (TLfDI)
Häßlerstraße 8
99096 Erfurt, Germany
(postal address: Postfach 90 04 55, 99107 Erfurt)
Phone: +49 361 57-3112900
E-mail: poststelle@datenschutz.thueringen.de
Web: www.tlfdi.de

You may also contact the supervisory authority of your habitual residence.

10. Children and young people

Where processing is based on consent, that consent is only valid for children under 16 years if given or authorised by the holder of parental responsibility (Art. 8 GDPR; Germany applies the 16-year threshold). In the game this concerns in particular the visibility of your own location to others and "image to avatar" (section 5).

On first launch we ask once for an age range — one of three. We do not ask for a year or date of birth. Nor do we store the selected range itself: from the answer we only derive whether the player is 6 years or older, and that single attribute stays in the local storage of the device (section 3.8). It is not transmitted to us and is not linked to any account. Anyone younger than 6 is shown a notice to ask a parent and to play together with them; nobody is blocked. This self-declaration does not replace consent by the holder of parental responsibility under Art. 8 GDPR.

We ask guardians to accompany play — especially regarding being outdoors, map visibility and purchases. If you notice that a child has given us data without your consent, please write to us and we will delete it without delay.

11. Automated decisions

We evaluate progress and combat data automatically for plausibility. If this raises a suspicion, a reward may initially be withheld; it is released again automatically if the suspicion is not substantiated. Also automatically, we do not show others any name containing words from our block list or any external avatar picture, and after several independent reports we provisionally hide a name and a picture from others until a human being has reviewed them (section 3.10, Terms § 11 (3) and (4)); the account remains fully usable. Further measures — in particular restrictions of the account or a block — are not taken automatically but only after review by a human being. No automated decision within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR producing legal effects concerning you takes place.

12. Changes to this policy

We adapt this policy when the game or the legal situation changes. The version published on this page applies.
